Interview with David Pogue, author of the book Pogue’s Basics: Money
Mike Carruthers: Get ready to save some money because David Pogue who I’ve had as a guest on here before is back with some great money saving tips starting with changing your oil.
David Pogue: Everybody puts oil change stickers on our windshield that says come in at 3,000 miles get your oil changed. When in fact if you look in your owners manual they will tell you a new car needs to have its oil changed every 7,500 or 10,000 miles. In other words you’re changing your oil 3 times too often.
David’s new book  Pogue’s Basics: Money is filled with some great ways to help you keep more of your own money. For example stop renting your cable box and modem.Â
You can buy your own box for 120 bucks and then you’re done. Totally legitimate the cable companies will even walk you through it. There’s no reason at all to keep renting your cable box or your router.
If you use a credit card at all for anything…
If you’re not using a 2% cash back credit card as your daily card you’re crazy. I mean that such a thing exists with no fee why? why? would you use any other credit card – don’t get it.
And if you buy anything on Amazon…
Amazon has this virtual credit card, it’s not a piece of plastic it’s just a number and it only works when you’re buying stuff from Amazon. But it gives you 5% cash back on everything.
