Interview with Karen Salmansohn, author of the book Think Happy

Mike Carruthers: To the rest of us those truly happy people seem to live a charmed life. However…

Karen Salmansohn: Happy people often have bad things happen to them but it’s just how they choose to reframe the bad things that happen to them. And how often they think about the bad things that happen to them.

Karen Salmansohn, author of the book Think Happy, believe that often people get stuck in unhappiness because they think in terms of always and never.

“I’ll never find anybody. I always date cheaters” and it’s very rare that there isn’t an always and a never. And it helps you to figure out what is the always or the never that’s stuck in your brain that is giving you this extreme negative lenses.

Karen says it’s also important to understand the difference between pleasure and happiness.

And pleasure is not immediate gratification of the ego and the body and it’s fast but it’s fleeting it’s hit and run joy. And happiness sometimes requires some effort but anything that helps you to become your best possible self. Even going through a challenge to become your best possible self.

Also unhappy people tend to spend a lot of time worrying.

What a waste of energy. Instead of using your energy on worry to use that energy (see it as energy) and use it to believe and find a way. 20% on the problem 80% on the solution.
